Catalina Island Outback Tour & Beach Picnic (Little Harbor Day Trip)
This is Catalina’s best kept secret, it’s where the locals go on their day off!
Get away from Avalon’s crowds and enjoy the quiet beauty of Catalina Island’s outback – where the buffalo roam. Your journey departs from our booth at the Avalon boat landing at 10am. The 16 mile drive provides amazing views and photo opportunities beginning with the summit road. This 3 mile winding stretch of road is lined with majestic eucalyptus trees and takes you from sea level to almost 1500 feet in about 10 minutes. The ocean view is spectacular as we continue along the top of the Island to the Airport-in-the-Sky’s Nature Center. We’ll make a brief stop here then drop down the backside of Catalina Island towards Little Harbor Beach. Little Harbor is a local favorite and one of the Catalina’s most beautiful beaches. We provide a picnic lunch, use of kayaks, beach chairs and umbrellas for your island style day off. Kayak, hike, beach comb, or just kick back, you have approximately 3 hours of free time to enjoy at the beach before the return drive to Avalon.
The drive back to town follows a different route through the Middle of Catalina Island. Middle Canyon is truly a beautiful canyon, it is home to the island’s fresh water reservoir and Pimu, the resident bald eagle who we will stop to visit. After a day at the beach and driving “the loop”, you will have experienced the best of Catalina Island. You will have a new appreciation of our island home and will fully understand why this tour is Catalina’s best kept secret. This trip is available year around by reservation.
